Why Pay for Braces as an Adult?

Adult Orthodontics
Peter, the patient
Dear Dr. Stosich,
My wife has been asking me for a few years to get braces. I think it’s a waste of money – she’s had her smile for this long, and it really isn’t this bad. I work hard and I just can’t see why I would need to spend thousands of dollars to just give my wife a prettier smile. It looks fine to me!
And aren’t braces just for teenagers, anyway? My wife is 42 – what benefit could there possibly be for her now?
Sincerely,
Frank W.
Dr. Michael Stosich
Dear Frank,
I believe that no matter the reason a patient is seeking out orthodontic treatment, everyone deserves a beautiful smile he or she can be proud of. Our smiles are often the first impression we give people upon first meeting them, and I believe everyone should have a smile that leaves a great impression and that the patient is proud of.I treat patients of all ages every day. It was once thought that adolescents were the only ones who needed orthodontic treatment, but that is an outdated idea. You’re never too old for a better functioning bite and a beautiful smile! You mentioned that you are worried about the cost. That is a common concern for patients and families. But, when I start discussing the benefits orthodontics can have with my adult patients, they often realize that the cost is quite worth it.

Bites that are misaligned leave the patient placing an uneven amount of pressure when biting down. This causes pain that only builds up over time. And not only that, over time, that poor bite can cause your wife’s teeth to chip, crack and break, leading to a lot of time and money spent in the dentist’s chair.

Misaligned teeth are also harder for the patient to clean, which can lead to decay and gum disease. Gum disease may not seem like a big deal, but periodontal disease has been linked to very serious conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

But I believe orthodontics should be affordable for everyone, so my office works hard to ensure we have payment plans that can fit into everyone’s budgets. We have a dedicated financial coordinator who can work with you to make sure that your wife can have the smile she deserves, at a cost that won’t break the bank.

Schedule a consultation with your wife today, and I think you’ll both be pleased with what my office can offer.
