May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month at iDentity Ortho

National Physical Fitness and Sports

Skokie, IL. – This is the time of year when outdoor activities start to pick up. National Physical Fitness and Sport month occurs in May, so we are celebrating being extra healthy. In addition to being more active, we are being more precautions about sports injuries.

Many oral and facial injuries are preventable with the use of safety equipment such as mouth guards. The American Association of Orthodontists advocates the use of mouth guards during sports because they prevent oral injuries and protect braces.

Stosich Consulting will make sure that custom mouth guards fit your mouth perfectly and will protect you from oral wounds. Patients with braces or retainers should always wear mouth guards while participating in athletics. Without protection injuries could occur to your mouth or braces, including tooth fractures and chipping, gum or cheek injuries, broken wires, and loose brackets and bands. These preventable injuries can be painful and cause costly damage to your mouth.

The most common mouth guards are custom mouth guards, boil-and-bite mouth guards and pre-made mouth guards. A good mouth guard should fit well, be tough enough to withstand tears, and be comfortable and allow you to breathe normally. Our team can help you select the best mouth guard for your mouth, and we can also demonstrate the proper way to wear your new mouth guard.

Dr. Stosich understands athletes need protection; he’s a black belt in tae kwon do! So he stresses the importance of mouth guards in all activities. He even fits local sports teams with custom mouth guards in his Grayslake office.
